I am starting to work a little bit more. I'm working on a surprised animation. This is around 3 hours of work, I tried a new way of animating which has been working out pretty well, it quickens my animation time and makes everything a bit more fluid.

The animation's hands have not yet  been animated as they should. I need to work on the speed of the feet coming up and down as he jumps at being startled.

nice project  Cool

I think for now that the action is not fast enough... especially the anticipation. Because of the surprise effect, the anticipation should be as quick as possible.

but it's a really nice start!!!
Hope that help.

I definitely saw what you meant when you said it could be faster. I've somewhat finessed more of the animation the hands are still not animated. The feet and the timing overall I believe is better.

I'm going to be adding on to this for an emotion change or two.

hey Brandon,

The timing is definitely better... I assume he is the one being surprise... To tell the story in a better way, maybe you should add an introduction to the surprise. for the aurdience to understand. Maybe he opens a door, or maybe he was looking the other direction and when he turned...

hope it helps!!!

It has been entirely too long since I last posted an update. I've worked 2-3 more hours into the project. I've sped up the animation even further and I think it's starting to get a little more "suprised" each revision. I made his hands finally animated (at least for the first part) and his feed have gotten a good look through.

Mathias I completely see what you mean, I hope to have a second animation either as a second scene or a very off center and close the screen scary face. To give a good idea of my mental image, picture the movie beatlejuice when he has to show a scary face, and it shows the back of his head as odd little tentacles launch out of his face for a second and go back in. I'm trying to picture something that would actually cause someone to jump that high and cause that much of a commotion.

As always critiques and criticisms are always welcome.

Edit: I think something went wrong in uploading the movie, please let me know if it seems to skip or just ends abruptly.

now I think what it needs is a reaction to the surprise... if he is scared like that, I don't think he will be back to normal that quick. maybe he won't have any strength in his leg and will fall on his knee, or on his back...

just throwing some idea there!!! also if you can draw, the use of thumbnails is very important, or at least record yourself acting the scene.  Wink

Howdy again,

I do agree with you Mathias, but it wasn't him coming to a relaxed state so much as I didn't animate much past that and I forgot to correct the time slider  Grin.

I added around 3-5 seconds on to my last revision. Some of the body still needs a good finessing since I did so much extra time and body movement with 1-2 hours.

I need to work on his transition from being puzzled to being sad. His facial animation could use a bit more work as well.

Thank you guys for all the critiques on my work. It's making me annoyed with the animation so I fix it right after wards  Smiley

hey Brandon,
How are things going with this animation?

It's a good thing in animation to work on these changes of emotion, however I think for know you should only focus on the action of your character, the action has to work well for the reaction of emotion to be understood!

Is it a story that you are working on or just an exercise?
