Yop all! a little survey:

What about your work and music? Animate you in music? What kind of musique?

For my part i put poses and breakdowns with music like beatles / acdc / old rock&roll / deep purple.

And silence when i begin to work on timing and action curves.

I ear music again when i smooth curves and finalyse animation on maya.

What about you?

I realize recently that with music my workflow efficiency slows down. I saw few animators replies about Richad Williams rule 'unplugging in animation' and someone told that even Richard sometimes listen the music while working. I think that it's a personal choise, rather personal capability working with music or without. But if I can listen the music when animate I prefer something like Jazz or classical music which doesn't bother me and head off so much. But at the rest time I like the electronic music. Progressive house, tech house, techno, etc. But this kind of music fits to construction work in my opinion Smiley

for me, I like to listen to music usually but when I'm really into an animation, I don't notice it anymore... so if it's stop playing, I don't get up to change it....

but I hate to listen to the radio, there will always be some stuff that will annoyed me to listen to and I will have to get up!

I agree about the classical, I love it. I also love score of movies like james horner or john williams which could be dangerous because it can make you think of the movie and influence your animation! lol  Grin

Eah! Especially 'Aliens' soundtracks. And animating character open his mouth and instead saying anything - 'Clack! Clack! Clack!'

Personally I'm picky about what I listen to.  I have a very short attention span, so I use music as a way to block out what's going on around me and help me concentrate.  It has to have no lyrics though and not me too abrasive.  Boards of Canda is great and movie soundtracks are good.  Sigur Ros also.  I do listen to Jazz too...it also helps if the music reflects what I'm animating.  If it's funny...I like to listen to stuff like Django Reinhart.  If it's serious...I've been using 3:10 to yuma lately...

Yeah I know what Richard Williams says...but for me it's an effective way to keep my concentration on the computer!
